As I mentioned in my welcome message, I am a Paranormal Romance Author. I’ve
been a storyteller most of my life. Even as a far back as I can remember I liked to tell stories to my friends and cousins. Back then they were silly little three sentence stories, but I loved telling them.
As I grew up, I found myself with so many ideas in my head that it often overwhelmed me. I wrote a few down, but never really finished them. Until I wrote Too You Too Evil. A story of a teenager who delves into the black arts and uses it to destroy her family. I didn’t like showing my work often but one friend at the time read the story and loved it.
There have always been ideas bouncing around I my head. Most were ghost related, because at the time, it was favorite genre. My sister introduced me to V.S. Andrews books, Flowers in the Attic and I was hooked, It was then that I started putting some romance into the stories I wrote. Still, I didn’t show my work to people. A small part of me was embarrassed about what I wrote, and another, that no one would like them.
One particular person who liked my books was my hubby. By the time I got married I had several written downs in boxes. Yes, handwritten. I didn’t think anything about them. I just needed to get the ideas out of my head. A few of my stories have come from nightmares I’ve had. At first, I would just write the dreams down, then I started thinking of how I could build on them. I tamed my nightmares down because some of them were pretty gruesome. I have very vivid nightmares. One such story that came from a nightmare was Awaken the Demon. I had a nightmare that a young woman was being chased by a crowd of people. They began beating her up, gruesomely (I’m sure some dream expert would a have a field day with my dreams) She’s down on the ground as they pummel her, then suddenly, she bursts through the crowd over her and starts ripping them apart Again, very vivid. When she was done and the bodies lay all around her, she discovered she was no longer human, but demon instead. I reshaped the dream, tamed it down, changing the crowd of people to an abusive husband and discovery far further into the book. I added a romantic element because I was romantic at the time. And viola, Awaken the Demon was created.
My hubby read the book and saw the box of manuscripts I had written and urged me to submit them to Publishers. I laughed it off, but he persisted. So, envelopes in hand, I began mailing off my books to publishers. Unfortunately, none were accepted. We bought a computer for myself, and I began putting my manuscripts on my books in folders.
I saw a contest from an online Publishing company and decided to submit Awaken the Demon. I came in second, only because my story wasn’t a happy ever after story. But…. the publisher liked me stories and urged me to submit another with a happy ending. So, I did. That book was Kidnapped. I have never humped for joy and screamed as much as I did when I received a contract. The publisher/editor helped me fine tune it and BAM! The book was published. They were primarily an eBook publishing company, and I’d never heard of such a thing before. It took some time to get used to marketing myself since I had no idea how to do anything on the Internet. Awaken the Demon has always been my favorite, so the publisher gave me some suggestions to fix it and make it a romance. She ended up not accepting it. But another publisher did.
At one time I had 17 published books. A few were taken out of publication by me simply for the lack of sales.
I still struggle with marketing my books. And the royalties I get are pithy at best. But I keep going, subbing more books.
I love writing series stories, and my Darkness series is 8 books long. I have three sets of Trilogy books and two are part of a collection called The One Night Stand series.
My current releases are my Lost Souls series. Secrets of the Dead, Innocence of the Dead and Revenge of the Dead. More may come at one point.
So that is the history of my writing career.
